CSIC

Agencia Estatal Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas, CSIC (Spanish National Research Council) is Spain’s largest public research institution, generating 20% of the national scientific output, and ranks third among Europe’s largest research organizations. CSIC is attached to the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation and plays a key role in scientific and technological policy in Spain and worldwide. CSIC carries out research in all fields of knowledge throughout its 123 Institutes distributed in three Global Fields: Life, Society and Materials.

Role in the project:

CSIC participates in SUNSHINE through 2 research groups:

  • Spectroscopy & Industrial Catalysis group, SpeICat

(Institute for Catalysis and Petroleum Chemistry, ICP-CSIC)

  • Ceramics for Smart Systems group, CSS

(Institute of Ceramics and Glass, ICV-CSIC)

CSIC’s activities will contribute to WP2 and comprise the following tasks:

  • Physicochemical characterization of the MCNMs and determination of surface reactivity.

  • Dispersion protocols of MCNMs in most relevant environmental ecotoxicological media.

  • Micro-Raman spectroscopy for characterization changes upon aging of MCNM.

  • Identification of the main mechanisms and properties of MCNMs driving their transformation and fate.
